Hiking Pole Functionality

Because of their ability to provide support on all types of terrain, hiking poles are standard equipment for many walkers, hikers, trampers, and backpackers. Trekking poles are sold as a pair and are used together to enhance stability and reduce stresses on your knees when hiking over rough terrain. They are often adjustable with lockable telescoping sections, and some have shock absorbing features built in. Aluminium and carbon fibre are two of the most common materials used to construct the poles, due to their high strength and light weight.

Cork, foam, and rubber are all good choices for grip material, with cork conforming to the hands the best, foam absorbing moisture from the palms, and rubber providing insulation against the cold, shocks, and vibrations.
