Cotopaxi started in Salt Lake City in 2014 and built the range around bags rather than clothing - travel packs, daypacks, slings and hip packs, most of them in colour combinations no other brand would sign off on. The Del Día line takes that further: each bag is sewn from leftover fabric by the person making it, so no two are the same. The Allpa travel packs are very popular, and they open like a suitcase rather than loading from the top, which changes how you pack. The Allpa range is one design in six capacities, so the choice is mostly about how long you're going and whether you're trying to stay carry-on. All of them open flat on a full-wrap zip with mesh dividers either side, which is the reason people buy them - you can see everything at once instead of digging down a tube.
The one most people want: Allpa 35L
Enough for a week if you pack properly, and the size we sell most of. Cotopaxi builds it to suit most carry-on sizers, but check your airline before you count on it - Australian domestic limits are usually tighter on weight than on dimensions, and 7 kg goes quickly in a pack that already weighs over a kilo empty.
Short trips and tight limits: Allpa 28L
Three or four days, and a safer bet on a strict carry-on allowance. If you're mostly doing long weekends, this is the better buy - the 35L is only worth the extra if you're regularly away longer than that.
Two weeks and up: Allpa 42L
Checked luggage in practice. The 42L is the sensible ceiling for a pack you still want to carry any distance, any larger and a wheeled bag may serve you better.
Everyday out of the same range: Allpa 26L and Allpa Mini 20L
Same suitcase-style opening scaled down to a daypack. Good if you already own a big Allpa and want the packing style to match, or if you want one bag that works for a commute and an overnighter.
In short: 28L for long weekends, 35L for a week and for carry-on, 42L once you've stopped pretending you'll travel light. An Allpa is a travel pack, not a hiking pack. The bigger sizes have a hip belt, but the frame is soft and most of the weight ends up on your shoulders. It's comfortable through airports and around a city. It is not what you want on a track with fifteen kilos in it.
Three shapes, and the difference is structure - how much the bag holds itself up when it's empty.
A second bag that packs away: Batac 16L
Unstructured, light, and squashes down into a travel pack for the days you're out without the big bag. Zip main compartment, vertical front pocket, two mesh bottle pockets. There's no padded back panel, so it's pleasant with a jacket and a water bottle in it and less so with a laptop and four textbooks.
The same bag with more room: Batac 24L
Same design, more space, still no frame. This is the one that works as a school or gym pack.
Commuting with a laptop: Tasra 16L
The organised one. Padded laptop sleeve, more internal pockets, top zip rather than the full wrap, and straps that tuck away so it can be carried as a bag. If you're choosing between this and a Batac, the question is whether you need the laptop sleeve - everything else is a preference.
In short: Batac 16L to pack away, Batac 24L for daily loads, Tasra for anything with a laptop in it.
Cotopaxi makes a lot of small bags and the names don't tell you much, so it's easiest to think in litres.
Phone, keys, cards: 1.5L hip packs
About the size of a large pencil case. The Allpa X version is cut to sit inside the top pocket of the bigger Allpa packs, which is the reason it exists.
Adding a camera or a jacket: 3L hip packs
The size most people actually end up wanting. Worn across the chest it carries better than on the waist, and the belt is long enough to do either.
Across the body all day: Todo and Trozo shoulder bags
Single-strap bags that hang at the hip rather than sitting high on the back. Easier to get into without taking off, less stable if you're moving quickly.
Del Día bags are made from fabric left over from other production runs, and the person sewing the bag chooses the colours. The practical consequence: you can't pick the colourway. You choose the model and the size, and what turns up is one of a kind - which is the point for most people who buy them, and a problem if you had something specific in mind. If you want to know exactly what's arriving, buy the standard version of the same bag instead. Del Día is usually a little cheaper for the same design.

What size Cotopaxi Allpa fits as carry-on?
The 28L is the safe one on any airline. The 35L is built to suit most carry-on sizers and usually goes through but check the limits for the airline you're flying - on Australian domestic routes you're more likely to be caught by the 7kg weight limit than by the dimensions. The 42L is checked luggage.
What's the warranty on a Cotopaxi bag in Australia?
Cotopaxi warrants its bags against manufacturing faults. If something goes wrong with a bag bought from us, contact us and we'll handle the claim for you - you don't need to deal with Cotopaxi directly. Your rights under Australian Consumer Law apply on top of any manufacturer's warranty.
Can I choose the colour of a Del Día bag?
No. Each one is sewn from leftover fabric by the person making it, so the combination is theirs, not yours, and no two are alike. You choose the model and the capacity. If you want a specific colour, the standard version of the same bag comes in set colourways. You can always head to one of our stores if you want to choose between the options they have on the floor.
Is a Cotopaxi pack any good for hiking?
For a day walk, yes - a Batac or a small Allpa carries a jacket, lunch, and water without complaint. For multi-day walking with a real load, no. There's no frame to transfer weight to your hips, and you'll want a proper hiking pack instead.
Can I see Cotopaxi in a store?
Yes - we stock the range at both Burleigh Heads and Brisbane. Stock varies between the two, so if you're after a particular bag it's worth ringing ahead or ordering online for click and collect.
