My review of MSR Trail Shot Pocket Sized WarBy: Paul on 29 September 2018
Initial issue (my fault!) but great filterBy: Jules on 14 May 2018I had been using another kind of filter, but found it very impractical for filling my hydration reservoir as well as requiring 'clean' and 'dirty' bottles for filtration, therefore meaning I could never really carry my maximum capacity of clean, readily useable water. My husband is also an avid dirt bike rider, so also needed to be able to fill his resevoir easily. Enter the MSR Trailshot. We both decided it would meet our needs. My first use of it was not overly successful, as it seemed slow and the 'bulb' was slow to refill, I gave up on it. Further fiddling that night at a similar water source revealed my issue- I was pumping from a source that had a high level of bottom sediment/scunge and the slimy scunge was occluding the prefilter at the end of the tubing. I was able to fill from a shallow source with sediment once I realised my error, the filter was efficient and managed to filter quite suspect using water into something drinkable. I have since used the filter on several day walks in my local area with rocky bottomed , water sources (no heavy scunge) and the filter is even faster again, filled my 2.5lt reservoir in no time and I didn't even need to take the reservoir out of the pack, the MRS Trailshot fits perfectly onto the hose. I also filled bottles and used it to drink straight from the source. It is incredibly easy to back flush (no syringe required like my previous filter) and I can see that my husband and I will argue about who gets the Trailshot if we happen to both be on simultaneous adventures!
Bomb-diggetyBy: Clancy Roberts on 11 February 2018I love it- you can get lighter filters and there are filters that take less effort but for me this is a great compromise. I have traditionally used larger pump style filters as I don't like the "dirty" bag system of some other filters, despite how light or easy to use they may be. MSR have once again come up with a great product in my opinion
Great unitBy: Johm on 9 July 2017The design makes it so versatile.
Easy, efficient and safeBy: Douglas Sutherland on 4 July 2017I cleaned all of my water on a solo 4 day hike through the Blackall ranges. Drank about 5 litres a day and had no problems. It is quick to do a litre...about 2 minutes. Highly recommend this product.
