Best headlamp I've ownedBy: Nathan on 13 April 2018Definitely the most expensive head-lamp I've ever owned, but it's awesome. 15hrs+ of actual runtime when on adaptive mode, easy to flick into full bright mode if you need the extra power, or there's smoke around impacting on the sensor. Super simple charging via a full sized USB-A connection, love it. I've been using Petzl lamps for climbing and running for over 10 years, and this one is my favourite.
Hands-on Review of the Petzl Nao+ 750 Lumen ReactiBy: teve Fallon on 12 February 2018Simply the best headlamp I have ever owned. Judging by other reviews, this is a common assessment. Now I own one, I can see exactly why. Here are my thoughts on the individual features, as they relate to my trail running. Construction - Very well made. A great choice of materials and style. Weight - Very light. Doesn't flop forward or back, and doesn't bounce around when running. Beam pattern - Very good. Not the usual ugly faint smudge of other lamps. The optics and focus are second to none. Illumination - Fantastic. Exactly what I was hoping for. Brilliant on the darkest trails. The reactive modes adapts to the ambient light very well. Cost - If you have looked around you will already know that it's expensive. Double what I have ever paid for a headlamp before. Curly cord - Can pull the battery to one side. It's quite thick and stiff overall. I have a big head, so it probably won't be an issue for normal people. Head band - Stays very sweaty (doesn't air dry easily). I towel it dry after use. Bluetooth features - No use to me. There was enough control with the standard modes. Don't need another App of limited functionality. Charging time - Slow, but usually left overnight so no real issue. The most important features have all scored very highly with me. They are the reason I paid the high price, and they have truly been delivered. After all these years I can finally stop looking for a decent headlamp for trail running. Well done Petzl.
All night running: Petzl Nao+ head torch!By: Anna on 9 January 2018I bought this to use in an overnight race where I expect to be navigating with a compass and map for 11.5 hours of darkness in varying scrub and light forest. I needed it to be light weight and comfortable with a pony tail and possibly beanie. I needed really good battery life but also good close range and distance lighting to allow navigation by map compass, but also topography and land features in the dark.i took it for a 5 hour night hike last night and it performed beautifully. No sore neck from too much weight, I could move the battery pack off the back of my head to a high pocket on my vest. Also the light was constant, no dimming or diminishing light as the battery faded. The light was divergent enough to see details of the track while running downhill at a good clip, and lit up the distance well for picking out details well off in the scrub. It also dimmed well to not blind me while reading a shiny map. The divergent lighting took some getting used to. So far a great product. Time will tell if the $ spend was worth it by how the battery holds up (but is replaceable I hear). I wish wild earth sold spare batteries so I could go on a three night hike without packing chargers.
