From my experiences using the Platypus META Bottle + Filter I have created a list of both the positive & not-so-positive features of this filtration device:

PROS

  • The entire bottle system is simple and easy to use, very user friendly – “scoop, close and drink!”.
  • An absolute 100% guarantee of entire bacterial removal from water cannot begiven. The filter meets EPA and NSF guidelines for the removal of: 99.9999% of Bacteria, and 99.9% of Protozoa, including Giardia, Cryptosporidium, E. coli, Salmonella and Cholera.
  • The materials used to create the flexible bottle body is beneficial for holding the bottle comfortably in your hand and fitting the unit into spacing like bungee pockets in backpacks.
  • Filter and screw on top are easy to use when taking apart or reassembling.
  • The filter can be removed to change the bottle to a traditional bottle unit. This is great for particular situations when you do not need water filtered – for example at the gym, exercise facilities and being active in areas where there are already water stations for you to fill at.
  • Cleaning the bottle, filter and screw on top is simple. The bottle is simply no-fuss when it comes to this, cleaning can be done very quickly.

CONS

  • Each time the bottle is used to scoop water from a natural source (e.g. river stream) it is absolutely vital to ensure the bottle is wiped for any excess water - which may not have been through the filtration system. The bottle needs to be wiped around all areas (especially around the screw on lid) to ensure you do not accidently consume unfiltered water.

IMPROVEMENTS
While there are things I do & don't like about the Platypus Meta Bottle + Filter, there is one improvement I would make to it which is an addition of a handle strap along the side of the bottle unit. This may help when carrying the bottle in your hand for more comfort – particularly for those times when you are not carrying a bag.

CONCLUSION
This is an awesome addition to my outdoor and active kit! So many benefits and can be of such great help when needing to hydrate in the great outdoors!
