If your dad’s idea of a perfect Father’s Day is a trail run, a campfire, or planning his next big adventure, this list is for you.
We’ve pulled together some of our favourite gear, stuff we’ve tested, loved, and would happily gift ourselves. From running and hiking to climbing, biking, snow days, and globe-trotting, there’s something here for every kind of dad (and every budget).
I recently upgraded to this vest, and from the very first run I knew it was a keeper. The fit is spot-on, the pockets are in all the right places, and it’s more comfortable than my old one (the tech just keeps getting better!) If Dad’s a runner, this is the kind of upgrade he’ll thank you for every time he heads out.
Why Dad Will Love It: Comfortable, stable, and ready for anything from short runs to ultra-distance adventures.
It’s just a soft flask, but it’s a good soft flask. At close to half the price of most big name brands, it performs just as well AND has heaps of colours to choose from. These are my go-to flasks now.
Why Dad Will Love It: Affordable, reliable, and won’t make his water taste weird.
Forget the old “folded jumper under the head” camping hack. This pillow changes the way you sleep outdoors. Honestly, I think a good pillow makes more difference to sleep quality than your mattress. Packs small, feels big, and keeps you well-rested for another day of adventure.
Why Dad Will Love It: Wakes up ready to go instead of a grumpy bum with a stiff neck.
Bright colours, tough fabric, and totally waterproof. These are a must-have for pretty much any trip. I’ve ditched rain covers altogether and just pack my gear in dry bags now. They keep things dry and double as a great way to organise gear inside your pack.
Why Dad Will Love It: Keeps his gear safe from rain, river crossings, and accidental drink bottle explosions.
If Dad climbs, his hands probably look like they’ve been through a cheese grater. This salve is a little pot of magic that helps heal splits and cracks fast without leaving a greasy mess.
Why Dad Will Love It: Keeps him climbing instead of complaining about his hands.
I’ve got the saddle bag from this same series on my gravel bike and love it. It’s durable, well-designed, and fits a surprising amount of gear. This handlebar version is my next buy, perfect for bikepacking, long day rides, or just cruising to work.
Why Dad Will Love It: Loads of space, rock-solid fit, and makes snack access easy mid-ride.
This was one of the first pieces of outdoor clothing I ever bought, and I still have my original Glacier fleece around 20 years later. Lightweight, warm, and built to last. Great for winter adventures and just as good for everyday wear.
Why Dad Will Love It: Classic warmth that lasts for decades.
If you’ve ever gone down the “one bag travel” rabbit hole online, you’ve probably seen this pack pop up over and over. There’s a reason for that. It’s tough, brilliantly organised, and is the maximum size for carry-on-only travel. If Dad wants to travel light without sacrificing space or comfort, this is the one I’d recommend.
Why Dad Will Love It: Makes travel simple, organised, and stress-free.
Whether your dad runs, rides, climbs, camps, or just loves getting out into the wild, the right gear can make every adventure better. This Father’s Day, skip the socks (although we have great socks too!) and give him something he’ll actually use, and maybe even treasure for decades.
